Sajjan Raj Vaidya is a US-based singer, songwriter, and composer publishing innovative Nepali folk tunes fused with modern pop for the past eight years. With a staggering 54 million streams in his most famous tune ‘Chitthi Bhitra’, the singer has 1.04 million subscribers on his official
YouTube Channel.
Initiating his career with his debut ‘Aaja Matra’, his big break chaperoned along with the release of his second single ‘Hawaijahaj’; the video made in collaboration with Fuzz Factory Productions has been viewed over 26 million times till date. And things have only escalated thereafter as his songs started getting more personal and honest, which led to more people resonating with his music on a much deeper level and revering all content published by the singer.
With over a dozen singles released under his belt, Vaidya, like most of his contemporaries, isn’t only an independent singer-songwriter but also the arranger, recordist, and music producer for most of his discography. Born on September 9, 1991, in Kathmandu, the singer was interested in music from an early age and received immense support to pursue his passion from his parents and his brother who are all avid music lovers themselves. His parents recall Sajjan writing poetry during his school days and sending them off to publications for feature columns in Nepali and
English newspapers.
The singer is one of the leading figures of the contemporary Nepali pop industry, his vision is brazenly admired in the music community and his contributions are now shaping the future of musicians in Nepal. His past event organized at the Thamel-based Lord of the Drinks (LOD), on July 30, 2022, was the grandest and most massively attended in-door concert to take place in the history of Nepali music. The songster was also commended for his performance charge for the event which, in the context of Nepali music, surpassed any expectations and prior negotiation margins set by
other musicians.
This crucial step forward for Nepali creators was not only beneficial for the artistes focusing on profit, but for the entire community to now advance their financial value and grow the payment spectrum. In addition to this, Sajjan is inviting his Nepal-based touring band to accompany his live sets in the upcoming shows overseas; yet another awe-inspiring move, very modern and sparse in the context of our community.
The singer has landed with his crew and is all set for his first-ever Australia Tour with his band comprising legendary guitarist Diwas Gurung, sarangi player Manish Gandharva, pianist Prajwal Lama, bassist Sahil Uprety, percussionist Ashesh Rai, drummer Chhitij KC, and backing vocalist Sandesh Koirala. The shows are scheduled to be held in four different venues starting out at The Hordern Pavilion on January 12; Festival Hall in Melbourne on January 14; Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on January 18; and Metro City in Perth on January 20.
The tickets for his debut show taking place in Sydney were completely sold-out three weeks prior to the actual concert date in a venue encapsulating nearly 6,000 attendance capacity.
The remaining three venues also have only general tickets left for purchase. In addition to his events, this musical wizard is also ruling the charts at the moment with his fresh release of the new single ‘Hyatteri’ which is ranking at #1 on trending for music according to Nepal-moderated YouTube broadcast. The tune has already transcended a million views in just five days of its release, so a very promising start of the new years for SRV, his band,
crew, and followers.
