By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 21: Veteran musician Ram Krishna Duwal will be featured at Paleti, a musical evening, which has been regularly organised on the last Friday of every month in Kathmandu.

In the Paleti event to be held on the last Friday, August 29, he will be accompanied by young singers Abhigya Ghimire and Benup Chhetri.

Ram Krishna Duwal is an artist who has long been engaged in the study and research of traditional Newar culture. At the same time, his contribution to Nepali music has also been equally influential.

A native of Kirtipur, Ram Krishna Duwal has made a significant contribution to Nepal’s political and social transformation as well.

He composed the melody for poet Gopal Prasad Rimal’s creation ‘Ek Jugma Ekdin Ekchoti Aauchha’, a song that has held an enduring place in Nepal’s political movements since1979.

Similarly, Duwal compiled and revised the Newa song  ‘Sirsaya Hegu.’

This song has won the hearts not only of the Newar community but also of other communities across Nepal. Broadcast nearly four decades ago, the song has inspired countless school dance performances.

This time, the programme will bring together a fusion of Nepali and Nepal Bhasa music, informed musician Abhas, who has been coordinating Paleti.

In this August Paleti, some historic creations in Nepal Bhasa will also be presented.

Among them is a song composed by King Ranajit Malla, the last King of Malla dynasty, when he left the Kathmandu Valley.
