YOUR CORRESPONDENT,Damak, Dec. 20: Two hospitals of Damak in Jhapa have started providing initial treatment to women's cervical cancer and breast cancer free of cost.
Treatment is being provided free of cost at Amda Hospital, a community hospital, and at Damak District Hospital in the initiative of Damak Municipality.
According to Regina Bhattarai, deputy mayor of Damak Municipality, the municipality has provided mobile thermocoagulator machines used for cryotherapy to the hospitals free of cost to provide treatment to women having cancer symptoms.
According to experts, after detecting the early stages of cancer, liquid nitrogen, carbon dioxide snow or dimethyl ether propane are used to cool down to minus 110 degrees Celsius. The patient is kept in it for a maximum of three minutes. As a result, the upper surface of the skin freezes for some time.
The blood vessel expands and starts taking more oxygen. Sensitive cells begin to sensitise the spinal cord. As a result, the receptors of the joints, muscles and nervous system begin to change.
This causes the brain to be more active and to protect the body from cold, it starts producing endorphins, which gives energy or reduce pain, so that the blood flow in the body increases and the stress and pain decreases.
It destroys the tissue that causes cancer. As a result, the possibility of this cancer spreading is reduced. This treatment method is less painful than surgery. Cervical cancer can be detected by visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA).
VIA is a cervical cancer screening method. This is an effective method for detecting cancer. With this, cervical cancer can be inspected with the use of liquid in a low cost, in a short time and in an easy way. It is considered as an alternative method to pap smear method.
According to Badri Baral, Public Health Inspector of Damak Municipality, as cervical cancer can be detected easily in the health centers and hospitals, cryotherapy can be done after VIA examination for those who have symptoms of cancer. According to him, cervical cancer can be avoided from cryotherapy.
