Four former ministers in fray in Surkhet

Surkhet, Oct. 31: In Surkhet, three former federal and one provincial ministers are contesting the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly slated for November 20. 

There are two constituencies for HoR and four for Provincial Assembly in the district.

Nepali Congress (NC) vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka is common candidate of the ruling alliance for HoR election in Surkhet Constituency 1. Khadka had been minister many times and nominated for the 1991, 1994, 1999 and 2014 election from the same constituency. After serving as minister for multiple times, he declared not to be minister again. 

Dhurba Kumar Shahi from  the CPN-UML is contesting against Khadka. Shahi from the left alliance had defeated  Khadka in 2017 election. 

Similarly, NC former central member and former minister Hridaya Ram Thani has been nominated for the HoR election in Surkhet Constituency-2. He was defeated by CPN-UML candidate Nawaraj Rawat in 2017 election. Now UML’s Amrit BC is contesting for HoR seat from the constituency.  

In Surkhet Constituency 2(A) and (B), two former ministers are contesting for the Provincial Assembly election. In Surkhet Constituency 2(A), CPN-UML standing committee member and former minister Yam Lal Kandel is contesting against NC Surkhet former vice-president Kali Prasad Shakya, who is a common candidate of the ruling alliance. 

Similarly, in Surkhet Constituency 2(B), CPN (Maoist Centre) candidate Bindaman Bista from the ruling alliance is contesting against CPN-UML candidate Tarakeshar Gautam and CPN (Unified Socialist) chairman Mohan Singh Baduwal.
