Bishwokarma assembles automatic electric hammer

blog

Purna Bk, Oct 30: Ram Lal Bishwokarma who is running a foundry at Aanbukaireni rural municipality of Tanahu district has invented an automatic electric hammer to flatten out hot iron to manufacture various implements.

The 51-year-old Bishwokarma's identity has now changed after his invention that he made two years back. He said he assembled the electric hammer as an alternative to strong persons who are required to strike heavy hammer while giving shape to heated iron at the foundry.

"Usually two persons are needed to shape the hot iron bars into various farm tools. I thought and thought as to how this menial labour could be replaced by some machine. Then I came up with this idea of making this electric hammer," said Ramlal, who was busy in work.

He has assembled the machine using motor, nuts and bolt, chain, pulley, steel sheets and wood. An electric motor is also installed.

According to him, he bought various paraphernalia for the machine for Rs 30,000. Bishwokarma said that he assembled the machine by looking at YouTube and was successful in the third attempt.

Now, he has been using his invention at his workshop since the last two years to beat the iron bars and shape them into various tools.

Bishwokarma is now confident that he can improvise this machine to make it more efficient and less noisy if he could manage around Rs 50,000.

The automatic electric hammer can be operated and controlled by foot also. Bishwokarma said that the monthly electricity tariff while using the machine is around Rs. 1,000.

Originally from Padampur in Chitwan district, currently living in Ghumauneghat, he has yet to get his foundry registered. He expressed his ignorance about the registration process.

"I have run the foundry just for a living. I have produced sickles, axes, spades and khukuris among others. I charges Rs 50 to Rs 200 to sharpen weapons depending on their sizes. I also work on making parts of a tractor," he said.

He has a plan to open a metal factory, but lacks money. "I can expand my business if the state provides financial assistance." He is only supporting for himself and his family with incomes from the business.

Impressed by his skills and labour, local people have provided an aana land for free to set up his business. His clients are satisfied too. He is providing service to people from around seven villages including Ghumaune, Sarangghat and Masdighat. A local Sansari Gurung has got her weapons sharpen from him. "I am satisfied by his service." (RSS)
