Landslides render Mugu villagers homeless

Mugu, Oct.20: Some of the settlements in Chhayanath Rara Municipality of Mugu have been displaced due to landslides triggered by heavy rains of the first week of October.  

The majority of the houses have remained buried in the landslides and a few are at high risk of it.  Floods and landslides have mainly affected 26 houses of Kotila village of the Municipality-6, 14 houses of Balaigaun village and 35 households of Ward No.7, according to the municipality office. 

Most of the villagers have been taking temporary shelter under the tarpaulins at Khadchaur, some one kilometre away from their houses, according to Krishna Bahadur Kulal of Ward No. 6. 

Similarly, Prem Lal Rawal of Ward No. 7 said that the villagers have not been able to keep safe their foods and clothing items after the landslide. Children and senior citizens have started facing problem after they lost food and proper clothes to wear. “We homeless people have not even getting proper and safe drinking water,” said Rawal.  He lamented that they had got no relief at all from any sector. “We have heard the Red Cross has distributed relief items, but in this village, we have got no such,” Rawal said. 

Meanwhile, Mayor of the Municipality Bishnu Kumar Bham said the Municipality office has instructed to collect details of the affected people from all 14 wards and have been preparing to distribute relief goods soon.
