Kalikot, Oct. 13: A landslide at the Zero Point area of Manma Bazaar, the headquarters of Kalikot district, has put 40 houses at high risk. The land beneath the 40 houses slid after the continuous rain since last Wednesday.

“Several houses in the area can be destroyed anytime as the land below them got eroded.

The houses have been emptied for now and discussions are underway for the relocation of the affected families,” said Kamal Bahadur Shahi, Mayor of Khandachakra Municipality.

Mayor Shahi’s house is one of the 45 houses in risk.  Bases of nine houses in between the houses of Ganesh Acharya and Harichandra Acharya have fallen by around a metre after a landslide occurred in the area.

Kalikot’s Chief District Officer Ramhari Sharma informed that the houses were slowly moving as the land beneath them have started to fall apart.

“It will be difficult to allow the families to return to those houses. We are discussing ways for their proper relocation. We are providing necessary relief materials to the displaced families for now,” said Sharma.
