Humla, Oct 9 : Heavy snowfall has blocked the only road to Limi.
The snow, which has been falling continuously since Thursday, has blocked the road leading to the settlement, known as the village beyond the mountains, passing through Nyalu. As of Saturday, around three feet of snow had fallen on the road.
Konjyok Nima Tamang, a resident of Limi, Namkha Rural Municipality–6, said that the village had been placed under a natural lockdown. “No one can enter or leave,” he said.
This is the second time in two months snow has blockaded Limi. According to Paljor Tamang, chairman of Ward No. 6, the latest bout of snow was preceded by two days of incessant rain.
“The temperature in Limi, Til, Halji and Jang has also dropped to below freezing,” he said, adding that the entire area, which lies over 4,000 metres above sea level, is covered in white snow.
Locals are worried that if the snow continues to fall in the coming days, it will damage their crops which are ready for harvest.
They are also worried about their yaks which have not yet been brought down from the highlands.
Similarly, work on the wooden motorable bridge being built over the Karnali River has also stopped.
Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishna Raj Ojha said that Hilsa, Yari and Sunkhani were also experiencing snowfall.
