Triveni, Oct 8: As many as 144 families have been displaced after their settlements were waterlogged due to a flood following the incessant rainfall for four days.
The 144 families from four local levels of Nawalparasi Purba—Gaindakot and Madyabindu municipalities and Hupsekot and Binayi Tribeni rural municipalities were displaced due to the flood.
Information Officer at District Police Office, Nawalparasi Purba, Santosh Pathak, said 80 families from Gaindakot Municipality, 20 from Mandybindu Municipality, 28 from Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality and 16 from Hupsekot Rural Municipality displaced.
The displaced families have been taking shelter on the campus, school building, public building, and open space of forest area.
Pathak shared that the families affected by inundation were shifted to nearby safer places for the time being and they would be rehabilitated at the coordination of stakeholders including the local level.
The incessant rainfall has not only displaced families but also damaged roadways. The transport connection between the hilly areas of Nawalpur with the district headquarters has been broken due to landslides occurring at different places.
Connectivity between two local levels—Baudikali and Bulingtar rural municipalities has been completely disrupted and there is no situation to operate transport service in hilly areas of Hupsekot, Madhyabindu, and Binayi Tribeni.
Information Officer Pathak added that landslides occurred at different places in the Kaligandaki corridor area in the district.
Though human casualty was not reported in the district, paddy planted in around 150 bighas of land at Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality-9 was destroyed.
Some of the places have been facing drinking water problems after the incessant rains polluted water sources, according to Pathak. (RSS)
