Banke, Aug 28 : Construction of 751 of 859 houses under the People’s Housing Programme of the government has been completed in the Banke and Bardiya districts.

Authorities, however, informed that 78 houses were not constructed as their owners did not come in contact.

The program has been initiated under Lumbini Province Ministry for Tourism, Rural, and Urban Development in 2016/17. Contrary to the agreements then, the owners of 78 households did not come in contact with the project officials.

“We have repeatedly tried to reach the owners of the 78 households. Some individuals with whom the agreement was reached have died while others have gone abroad and the whereabouts of a few is completely unknown,” said Ram Ashraya Shah, current chief of the Urban Development and Building Construction Office in Nepalgunj.

Among the 78 contactless families, several had received the first tranche of support.

Meanwhile, among 474 houses, including 133 remaining incomplete as of now and 341 added in Banke and Bardiya districts, the construction of 270 houses has been completed.

A committee under respective provincial assembly members recommends poor families which are in need of a house to the provincial government.

For house construction, a family receives Rs. 350,000 as support from the government. Meanwhile, service seekers have stressed that the amount is not enough.
