25 students injured as boat capsizes in Rapti river

By Diwakar Pokhrel, Deukhuri, Aug 18: A total of 25 students were injured when a boat capsized on the Rapti River in Dang today.

The condition of three students is serious while the other 22 are in normal health conditions.

25 students from Taruliya of Lamahi Municipality -9, Dang were heading towards their school by crossing the Rapti River in the boat which overturned around 9 AM on Thursday. Locals have said that boat overturned as it was carrying passengers more than its capacity.

Manish B.K. aged 13 and Rima Ramijal aged 12, from Taruliya, Lamahi Municipality, Dang studying in grade six in Sikta Secondary school Sikta, and Sandeep BK aged 16 from Tarulyia, Lamahi Municipality, Dang, studying in the same school in grade nine have sustained serious injury.

Bishnu Khatri, Principal of the Sikta Secondary School said that the remaining 22 students are in normal health conditions. Dina Ram BK from Ratakans, Rajapur Rural Municipality-7, has been operating the boat in the Rapti River. The locals came to the rescue after seeing the boat accident. Students cross rivers by boat to go to their schools.
