New livestock market comes into operation in Rupandehi

Bhairahawa, July 26: A livestock market has come into operation at Chyangtha, Siyari Rural Municipality–2, Rupandehi.Kul Prasad KC, chief minister of Lumbini Province, inaugurated the market, built with a loan grant of Rs. 50 million from the World Bank, on Monday.

Nepal Livestock Sector Innovation Project is the project that built the market and its chief Gandhi Raj Upadhyaya shared that the aim was to help farmers market their cattle. Ganesh Khanal, head of the rural municipality’s livestock division, informed that veterinarians had been stationed at the market to provide free treatment to the farmers’ animals. Animals not sold immediately can also be placed in a holding centre. 

A committee has been formed to manage the market which shall be open to vendors and buyers every Sunday. The rural municipality has said that it will also charge Rs. 300 from buyers for the management of the market which is spread over an area of two Bighas (approximately 1.4 hectares) of land and can hold 1,000 cattle. 

Meanwhile, the farmers expect to get decent prices without much hassle and bargaining. “We will be able to get a fair price and sell our animals,” Deep Chandra Yadav, a farmer of Mayadevi Rural Municipality, said.
