Khotang, July 8 : Halesi Tuwachung municipality of Khotang has launched a girl mobilization programme to stop child marriage.
The programme has begun from
Chyasmitar of Halesi Tuwachung municipality-3. Mayor Bimala Rai has provided Rs
55,000 to Chyasmitar Secondary School for the programme.
Mayor Rai said, "Groups of
girls would be formed in schools in order to stop child marriage. The groups
formed in schools will organise different public awareness programmes for the
same."
She shared that a programme has
been launched at the leadership of girls as girls themselves should be aware to
stop child marriage.
The municipality has launched the
programme to make the girls aware of why child marriage should not be done and
what types of problems might occur while doing child marriage, added Rai.
The municipality has set a plan to
expand the programme, launched as a trial from Chyasmitar school, in other
wards and schools making it effective. The legal age for marriage is 20 years
in Nepal. That's why marriage under 20 years is called child marriage. (RSS)
