blog

BY A STFF REPORTER Kathmandu, July 2:Four months after its inauguration by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, only 13 cargo containers have entered the Chobhar Dry Port in Kritipur.

Four cargos had entered on the day of inauguration on April 5. Only nine cargo containers have entered it thereafter.

Dhan Bahadur Baruwal, custom chief of the Chobhar Dry Port, said that movement of cargo containers have not increased.

Moreover, arrival of cargo containers has, of late, decreased in other dry ports of the border area, he added.

Earlier, Letter of Credit (LC) opening process was closed, which has created problems to the businessmen in bringing the cargo containers in the newly constructed dry port.

The agent’s problem has also been there for the poor arrivals of the containers, he said.

It has provided several discounts to attract the traders of Kathmandu, who have been importing goods through Birgunj and Biratnagar dry ports. It has provided discount in parking.

The dry port was constructed with a loan of Rs. 1.54 billion from the World Bank.

There are three buildings that have customs, quarantine facility, security, three warehouses, stuffing storage, three weighing machines, an electric sub-station and boundary lights.
