Lori wins award at Cannes

Kathmandu, May 30 : Nepali short film Lori (Melancholy of My Mother’s Lullabies) directed by Abinash Bikram Shah has won the Special Mention Award in the short film genera at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.   

Lori was the first film from Nepal to officially participate at Cannes, and it won the special mention award in the main category.   

Shah received the award.

 The film tells the story of a mother who sings lullabies to her 12-years-old daughter in order to calm her down. But, when the lullabies end and the daughter comes to her senses, the reality turns out to be much grimmer, and life-altering.

 The 14 minutes long the film has the script and dialogues of Shah himself and the cinematography was done by Ujwal Kumar Bastakoti. 

Ankita Yadav, Sujita Shah, and Preeti Jha have done the film.  The film is co-produced by Underground Talkies Nepal and Hong Kong’s PETRA Films.

This time in Cannes, which lasted for 11 days, Nepali actress Surakshya Panta walked the red carpet, representing the Italian and Belgian film The Eight Mountains starring her. Some parts of the film were also shot in Nepal.
