Vote counting concludes in 747 local levels

By A Staff Reporter  Kathmandu, May 26: With only six local level election results remaining to be declared as of 7:00 pm Wednesday, Nepali Congress has secured victory in 138 municipalities  and  188 rural municipalities. 

Similarly, the main opposition CPN-UML has taken the second slot with 81 mayoral posts and 123 seats of rural municipality chair.  

Vote counting of the elections has been concluded in 747 local bodies.

The vote counting of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, Triyuga Municipality and Tilotamma Municipality concluded on Wednesday.   

Similarly, the ruling coalition candidates have won the posts of mayor in all five metropolises, while an independent candidate has been leading in Kathmandu Metropolitan City. 

The ruling coalition partners NC has secured two mayoral posts and CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal have secured mayoral seat in one metropolis each. 

The CPN-UML has lost the election for the mayoral posts in all six metropolises while it secured victory in deputy mayoral posts in three metropolises, including Lalitpur, Biratnagar and Pokhara metropolises. 

Renu Dahal of CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected as mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chiri Babu Maharjan and Nagesh Koirala of NC have been elected as mayor of Lalitpur and Biratnagar Metropolises and Dhana Raj Acharya of CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rajesh Man Singh of Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal have been elected as mayor of Pokhara and Birgunj metropolises respectively. 

The counting of votes is progressing in six local levels, including Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC). 

As of 7:00 pm, the election results of 282 municipalities and 460 rural municipalities have been made public.  

Independent candidate Balendra Shah has been leading in vote counting in the KMC. 

As of 5:00 pm, Shah has garnered 56,148 votes. Likewise, NC’s Shrijana Singh has received 35,478 votes and UML’s Keshav Sthapit 34,852 votes.

Similarly, Sunita Dangol, the UML candidate for deputy mayor has been leading the vote counting with 65,878 votes while Rameshwor Shrestha of the CPN (Unified Socialist) has got 21,514 votes.

Likewise, common candidate of the ruling coalition NC candidate Chiri Babu Maharjan has won the mayoral post in Lalitpur Metropolitan City with 42,722 votes while CPN-UML’s Hari Krishna Byanjankar has got 24,560 votes. UML candidate Manjali Shakya Bajracharya has won the deputy mayoral posts with 25,084 votes while her nearest rival CPN(MC) Babu Raj Bajracharya has received 18,752 votes. 

Similarly, the UML has been able to secure the victory in both mayoral and deputy mayoral posts in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City. 

Tika Ram Khadka has been elected as mayor of the sub-metropolis with 31, 408 votes while his nearest rival Gehendra Giri of the NC has got 27,717 votes. Syani Chaudhary has won the seat of deputy mayor with 30,597 votes and her nearest competitor Jog Bahadur Rana of CPN (Unified Socialist) has received 21,065 votes. 

Similarly, NC candidate Ram Krishna Khand has won the mayoral post in Tilottama Municipality, Rupandehi with the margin of 1,003 votes. Khand has received 16,836 votes. 

Similarly, Jageshwor Devi Chaudhary of the UML has been elected as deputy mayor with the margin of 7,971 votes. 

Likewise, CPN (Unified Socialist) candidate Bal Dev Chaudhary and CPN (MC) candidate Gita Khadka Karki have won the posts of mayor and deputy mayor in Triyuga Municipality, Udayapur respectively. Chaudhary has garnered 744 votes while Karki has received 818.
