By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, May 24: Lawmakers of the National Assembly have asked the government to investigate into the suspects of rape to save girls from the crime.
Participating in a pre-budget session in the Upper House on Monday, they said that until and unless the culprits are booked for actions, girls would not be safe in the country.
They also raised voices against some contemporary issues like the price hike of petroleum products, local level election and others.
Lawmaker Krishna Prasad Paudel said that the local election was conducted fairly. He appreciated the coalition government for conducting the election in a healthy atmosphere.
UML leader and lawmaker Bhairab Sunder Shrestha said that price hike of the petroleum products has had a negative impact on the people.
“People are getting frustrated with frequent price hike, they are unable to feel the presence of the government,” he said.
Instant price hike on petroleum products was unnatural and an intolerant behaviour towards people, he added. “All of the governments, including India, provide subsidised products and services to the people,” he said.
Shrestha expressed his worry towards the tendency of ‘setting’ and spreading propaganda in each and every task. “Everything is under setting, code of conduct is hardly in practice,” he said, adding nowhere in the world there is a practice of forging coalition among ruling parties but it is so in Nepal.
Similarly, Maha Prasad Sharma expressed his concerns over the growing inflation. “It is unnatural which is the reason people are frustrated towards the parties and preferred independent candidates in local polls,” he said.
Another lawmaker, Jayanti Devi Rai urged the government to bring the culprit to justice by investigating into the incident of sexual violence that has become public through the social media.
Susmita Regmi who participated in a beauty pageant in 2014 made public 20 video clips on social network TikTak on Wednesday and revealed that one of the organisers of the event had committed rape on her.
Not only Rai, most of the lawmakers voiced for justice to the victim of the beauty pageant.
