Election atmosphere in Rukum West heats up

By Our Correspondent Rukum West, May 3: In Rukum West, farmers are busy harvesting wheat while the local level election atmosphere is heating up.

The political leaders have been asking for votes by reaching farmers' fields. Local level candidates along with their cadres who have been conducting door-to-door campaigns have reached the wheat fields in the district. 

The CPN (Maoist Centre) stated that in Triveni Rural Municipality they have met the voters in the field during their door-to-door campaign. 

Rajendra Pun, leader of the party, said that the election campaign of Sunday was completed by visiting Martyr Bijaya Ghale's family and other voters' families. 

He informed that they have met voters visiting their field since it is the time to harvest wheat.

Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Chaurjahari Municipality, Hukum BC, said that the election campaigns are carried out in the fields of the farmers since it is the season to harvest wheat, plow field and prepare rice seedbed in the municipality.

Every party has conducted door-to-door campaigns in all the local levels of the district. Farmers are busy preparing rice seedbed in low land areas and cultivating wheat in high lands.

Prakash Khadka, nominee for vice-chairman in Saniveri Rural Municipality form UML, said that they have visited farmers working in the field and asked for the votes as the farmers are the ones voting in the election.  He also mentioned that as the polling day is approaching, they have been informing their election resolutions wherever they can. Agriculture is the priority of farmers

The priority of the farmers is to reap fruits of their labour. Farmers have started spending more time in the field to protect their crops from wind and rain. 

Yagya Yeri of Aathbiskot-3 said that he had been busy at the time of harvest due to rain and storm. He said that he can participate in election after completing his field work. 

Urmila Sharma of Musikot Municipality-4 informed that harvesting wheat is about to finish. She added that their priority is field work. The leaders come to appeal for the votes but we cannot leave behind our work and be with them.  Acting Chief of the Agriculture Development Office, Rukum West, Min Bahadur KC informed that in most of the places in the district, farmers are busy harvesting wheat. He added that about 40 percent of the wheat is yet to be harvested and those who have already harvested had started plowing their field.
