Man killed by tiger in Chitwan, youth injured in rhino attack

By Shanta Adhikari, Chitwan, May 1: A person has been killed in a tiger attack in the eastern Chitwan while another person has been severely injured in a rhino attack in the western Chitwan.

Narahari Adhikari, Deputy Inspector of Police (DSP) and spokesperson at the District Police Office, informed that Narayan Dahal, 65, of Bairiya in Khairahani was attacked by the tiger from the Chitwan National Park at Kumaroj Madhyabarti Community Forest.

The incident occurred at 8 am this morning while Dahal was on the way for collecting fodder at Rapti Grass Field.

Following the reception of the information about the tiger attack, a team of police personnel from Kumaroj Police Post and the Area Police Office, Khairahani, army personnel from the CNP and the Nepal Army was mobilised. The team entered the forest on elephants for a search operation and found Dahal's body.  

According to the police, the body was found a kilometer away from the place of attack and there was a deep scar at the throat and the calf part in the right leg was missing.


Similarly, Mana Bahadur Kumal, 37, of Bharatpur-28, Golaghat sustained injuries to a knee and stomach from a rhino that came out from the CNP forest.

Kumal was attacked while he was going to his work by the rhino which emerged suddenly from the maize field, according to the police.

As the incident occurred some four hundred meters away from Kumal's home this morning, the locals chased the rhino away and took the injured Kumal to the Bharatpur Hospital for treatment.
