Baniya elected NC Bagmati PP leader, defeating CM Lama
Indra Bahadur Baniya has been elected Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Parliamentary Party Leader on Wednesday. Baniya defeated Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama by eight votes, gaining 22 in favour. Lama only secured 14 votes.
China has granted visa-free access to citizens of 75 countries: NIA
Wang Zhizhong, head of the National Immigration Administration (NIA), also noted that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), the number of countries eligible for visa-free transit to China has increased to 55, while the number of entry ports has expanded to 60 across 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities.

Internal debt fully raised, external debt falls short at 57%
While the government has succeeded in raising the entire targets of the internal debt for the last fiscal year 2024/25, it could only raise 57 per cent of the external debt. According to the Public Debt Management Office's report on public debt, the target of collecting Rs 330 billion for the internal debt was fully met.

M8.8 quake off Russia triggers tsunami in Japan, 60-cm waves detected
Vast areas of Japan's Pacific coast were hit by tsunami waves as high as 60 centimetres on Wednesday after a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula in the morning, with the weather agency keeping its evacuation warning in place. The warning, covering areas stretching from Hokkaido in northern Japan to Wakayama Prefecture in the west, disrupted rail, road and air transportation along the coast and led the operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to halt the release of treated radioactive wastewater into the Pacific Ocean.
Japan marks highest-ever temperature of 41.2 C in Hyogo
Japan recorded the highest ever temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, beating the previous high of 41.1 °C marked in 2018 and 2020. Authorities are strongly urging people to take precautions to avoid the risk of heatstroke. The mercury hit the above-human temperature of 41.2 °C in the city of Tanba, Hyogo Prefecture, at 14:39, while two cities — Fukuchiyama in Kyoto and Nishiwaki in Hyogo — also recorded extremely high temperatures of 40.6 °C and 40 °C, respectively.

Changunarayan Temple welcomes over 31,000 tourists in a year
The Changunarayan Temple in Bhaktapur district, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracted a total of 31,225 foreign tourists in the fiscal year 2024/25.
