First Milk Bank For Newborns
With the establishment of the first-ever human milk bank in the country's major maternity and women's hospital, hopes are now high that many vulnerable neonates will get what they need most: breast milk, which is vital for their survival. Established in partnership with the Government of Nepal, the European Union and UNICEF, the bank functions by collecting milk from lactating mothers and then screening, processing, pasteurisation and finally distributing the milk to needy infants, who are unable to receive breast milk from their mothers owing to various reasons. The milk bank, aptly named 'Amrit Kosh', is an essential component of a breastfeeding-friendly health system, giving vulnerable infants access to the multiple benefits of breast milk when they need it most.
Consider Legalising Cannabis
Since ancient times, cannabis has been utilised for its medicinal purposes. Having a lot of medicinal value, cannabis has been used for the treatment of many illnesses, particularly in Ayurvedic system of medicine. Cannabis is extracted from the dried flowering tops, leaves, stems, and seeds. It contains more than 100 compounds with different properties. Stem of cannabis plants are also utilised to make rope, strong fabrics, fiberboard and paper.
Dengue spreading in hilly districts
Lumbini Province is seeing a growing cases of dengue infection, with Butwal emerging as the hotspot. Though this disease was confined in the Tarai and inner Tarai plains in the past, now it is spreading in the hilly and mountain districts. Dengue patients have been found in the hilly district of Palpa district as well. According to Palpa Health Office, dengue infections have been found in the tests conducted at various hospitals of the district. Madhusudhan Bhattarai, lab technician of the office, informed that 20 cases of dengue were detected within three months.
Ratuwamai’s Additional Postal Office struggling to survive
Additional Postal Office at Satmedi in Ward No. 10 of Ratuwamai Municipality, in Morang district, was an essential office years ago when it would help bring and take letters from and to across the country. But now, it is struggling to survive. Established in 1978 over one kattha land provided by late Hari Prasad Adhikari for utilisation and by collecting funds from locals, the additional postal office is now nobody’s concern as the tradition of communicating through postal services has nearly ended.
Farmers making millions by selling milk
Madhav Ghimire, 30, of Panini Rural Municipality-4, Patauti, never felt the desire to go abroad after spending three years in India doing a job there. He has become an exemplary farmer in the village now. He is engaged in cow and buffalo rearing, and has been selling milk worth Rs. 45,000 per month. "I produce 40 liters of milk per day from three cows and two buffaloes. Last year, I received 44,364 from the rural municipality in cash subsidy," he said.
Freshktm expands business of vegetables
About a year after it opened its first outlet at Ratopul, Kathmandu, the Freshktm Agro Private Limited Saturday opened its outlet at Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur. Established in 2020, Freshktm Agro Company has been supplying fresh vegetables, collected directly from farmers, to the valley consumers. Freshktm, which has adopted supply chain approach, has aggressively expanded its outlets in the Kathmandu Valley by encouraging the farmers of different districts to produce safe vegetables in the last 12 months.
NC leader Giri passes away

Issuing a press statement on Saturday, NC parliamentary party's whip Min Bahadur Bishwakarma said health condition of leader Giri, who has been receiving treatment at Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur, is stable.
