Farmers making millions by selling milk
Madhav Ghimire, 30, of Panini Rural Municipality-4, Patauti, never felt the desire to go abroad after spending three years in India doing a job there. He has become an exemplary farmer in the village now. He is engaged in cow and buffalo rearing, and has been selling milk worth Rs. 45,000 per month. "I produce 40 liters of milk per day from three cows and two buffaloes. Last year, I received 44,364 from the rural municipality in cash subsidy," he said.
Freshktm expands business of vegetables
About a year after it opened its first outlet at Ratopul, Kathmandu, the Freshktm Agro Private Limited Saturday opened its outlet at Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur. Established in 2020, Freshktm Agro Company has been supplying fresh vegetables, collected directly from farmers, to the valley consumers. Freshktm, which has adopted supply chain approach, has aggressively expanded its outlets in the Kathmandu Valley by encouraging the farmers of different districts to produce safe vegetables in the last 12 months.

KMC yet to find alternative places to dump waste
Kathmandu, Aug 20: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City's announcement to dispose of waste within the city itself by segregating biodegradable and non-biodegradable garbage has yet to be implemented. So far, the KMC has identified five places for dumping biodegradable waste produced from the Valley. But, local people from the proposed dumping sites are not positive about the matter putting the process in the lurch, said Sunil Lamsal, member of the Secretariat of KMC mayor Balendra Shah. Fifty to 150 ropani of land in five areas has been identified for dumping waste produced from the Valley, he added. The local people of the proposed landfill sites should get awareness about the benefits of making fertilizers from biodegradable waste, stressed Lamsal. As per the announcement, the KMC was scheduled to dispose of biodegradable garbage in Kirtipur in mid-August. But, it is yet to be implemented due to various reasons, said the KMC. But, garbage piled up in every part of the Kathmandu Valley remained uncollected and not destroyed for two months. It was only after reaching a four-point agreement among Chief District Officers of Kathmandu, Dhading, and Nuwakot districts and the local people affected by the landfill sites (Sisdol and Bancharedanda) that the KMC recently resumed collecting and dumping waste. However, a long-term solution has not been found yet and the affected local people will not allow the disposal of garbage collected from the Kathmandu Valley after three months, according to the agreement. So, the KMC is mulling over a sustainable solution by continuing the search and identification of dumping sites in other areas, said Lamsal. (RSS)

Inaruwa, Aug 20: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, has said the incumbent government has been focusing its attention on the activities to create employment opportunities at home. At a programme organised at Prakashpur of Barahakshetra municipality-10 in Sunsari, Minister Karki shared that the government is paying attention to creating employment by developing information technology. Stating that youths are compelled to go for overseas employment keeping their lives at risk of lack of employment in the country, he mentioned that the government has been carrying out different types of activities to end this. Also the Spokesperson of the government, Karki pointed out the need of ending unemployment and poverty to develop the country. UML to form electoral alliance with parties having similar ideology: Secretary Rayamajhi
Chitwan, Aug 20: Secretary of the CPN (UML) Top Bahadur Rayamajhi today said the party would forge an electoral alliance only with the parties having similar ideologies. The party is not in favor of making a poll alliance for personal interests, he said at a press conference organized here by the Press Chautari Nepal, Chitwan. Many political parties except the ruling Nepali Congress have reached out to the UML for an electoral alliance, he said, "An alliance formed rampantly without any goals, aims and ideology cannot give the country a right direction." The party does not accept any alliance for personal interests, stressed leader Rayamajhi. The UML Secretary opined that the UML has tried to drive the country towards socialism through the medium of development and prosperity. (RSS)
