Work on reconstructing and repairing 650 of the 920 archaeological structures damaged in the 2015 earthquake has been completed. The devastating Gorkha earthquake had damaged 920 temples, shrines, monasteries and rest houses across the country. Of them, 170 temples and shrines were located in World Heritage Sites, 406 were in the three districts of Kathmandu Valley and 344 were outside the valley. The record maintained by the Planning Division of the Department of Archaeology (DoA) shows that 125 of the destroyed temples that were in the various World Heritage Sites have been rebuilt whereas 34 temples are in the process of being rebuilt. However, work has still not begun on 11 temples and shrines.
All domestic flights scheduled for May 13 have been suspended. According to the Airlines Operators Association of Nepal, no airline will fly on Friday, the day of the local election, to any destination inside the country. This move is in line with the Election Commission’s order to stop all forms of transportation inside the country on that day.
The current spell of rains is likely to continue till May 13, the day when the local elections are scheduled to be held. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has stated that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall on Friday due to the 'Asani' cyclone developing in the Bay of Bengal with the local winds developed in the Bay of Bengal.
Inspector General (IG) the Armed Police Force Nepal (APF) Raju Aryal Monday directed junior officers and personnel to remain committed to conduct the upcoming local elections in a peaceful and fearless environment. IGP Aryal lauded the enthusiastic mobilisation of its staff in the field of election security. He said that a monitoring team has been mobilised from the head office, Kathmandu to closely monitor the activities of the APF personnel in the areas of responsibility including ration management, health, discipline, demonstration of professionalism, operations in border security, and control of smuggling.
Necessary preparations for the local elections are being made in full swing across the country. The government, the Election Commission (EC), security bodies and other machineries have geared up for holding the May 13 local polls in a free, fair and fearless environment. As the date for the polls comes closer, the political parties, their candidates and independent contestants have intensified poll campaigns. With the support of the Nepali Army (NA), ballot papers have already been transported to all the districts. The NA has initiated the process of taking the ballots to all the 753 local levels. The EC has intensified efforts to implement the poll code of conduct in letter and spirit. The election body has alerted different candidates, journalists and others against the defilement of the poll code and other election-related laws. Such a proactive role on the part of the EC is expected to help ensure a free poll. Periodic free elections are the foundation of democracy as they enable people to elect their representatives.

Security officials of Nepal and India in Ilam have agreed to tighten border points owing to nearing local level elections in Nepal. A security meeting held at West Bengal of India between Nepali and Indian security officials and the government officials from both the districts have agreed to regulate the border points to control illegal and unwanted activities to conduct the election peacefully. At the meeting, Chief District Officer of Ilam Madhav Prasad Dhungana, Chief of the District Police Office Mahendra Kumar Shrestha, Chief of the District Police of APF Suresh Sapkota and 8th Battalion Commander of Sima Suraksha Bal (SSB) Mitual Kumar, 36th Deputy Battalion Commander of Sikkim Nirupesh Kumar and the Indian Customs officials were present.
Air transport facilities in the mountainous districts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces have resumed after a disturbance for one and half a months. Aviation service has now become easy in four mountainous districts of Karnali and Bajura district of Sudurpaschim after the private airlines’ airplanes, which were centred in Kathmandu agreed to resume their services from Nepalgunj. Ujir Rawat, a passenger who was travelling to Simkot from Nepalgunj, said air transportation became easy these days. Earlier, passengers were compelled to wait for even a week in Nepalgunj in lack of air ticket. But now there is a pressure of passengers also because of election, Rawat said.
Chairman of Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) Dilli Bahadur Singh said that as a regulatory body of the power sector, the Commission has been aggressively working to prepare regulations to make the electricity market competitive and the electricity services more reliable, accessible and safer. "In the three years of its establishment, the Commission has formulated 10 regulatory instruments and other 15 regulatory instruments have been drafted by giving priority to the work of stakeholders and service recipients," he said while addressing the 3rd establishment day of the Electricity Regulatory Commission on Sunday.
The Association of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ACAN), an organisation of accountants, has suggested issuing corona bonds to settle the remaining Rs. 11 billion claims of corona insurance that have to be paid by the insurance companies. The Association, in its suggestion for the budget of the coming fiscal year, said it would be appropriate for the government itself or the insurance companies to issue 4-year 4 per cent corona bonds equal to Rs. 1 billion for immediate payment of coronavirus insurance liabilities.

The Consulate General of Nepal in New York and the Yale University Art Gallery, Connecticut USA, jointly announced the transfer of the Nepali sculpture - Buddhist Goddess Tara/Parvati from the permanent collection of the Yale University Art Gallery to Nepal on Friday. Acting Consul General at the Consulate General of Nepal in New York Bishnu Gautam oversaw the return of the artwork in partnership with Yale. The retuning argillite-stone sculpture of Tara/Parvati that dates back to the late ninth to early 10th century was donated to the gallery by one donor in 2015.
