Tharu Icon begins in Morang

Morang, Sept 26 : The third edition of Tharu Icon began on Saturday at Sundarharaicha-1, Morang.

Tharu Kala Kendra Biratnagar has organised the programme to select the talents from Tharu community.

 Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, chairman of Novel Teaching Hospital, the main sponsor of Icon, inaugurated the programme at the Community Hall of Haraicha. 

The talent selection programme, which started in 2018, could not be organised for two years because of COVID-19 pandemic.

Altogether 41 people including 23 women and 18 men have participated in the youth talent search programme of the Tharu community from Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur and Saptari districts. 

The first, second and third place winners in the competition will receive  cash prizes of Rs. 50,000,  Rs.30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively.

 Leelanath Gachchhdar, a member of the organising committee, said that a one-week trip to Dubai will be organised for the best male and female winners.

The selected talents will compete for the title on October 2.

 The leaders of the Tharu community living in the Terai said that the programme was organised to find the talent of their own community. 

Kamal Chaudhary, Janak Chaudhary, Prakash Chaudhary and Vishal Chaudhary are the judges in the programme chaired by BN Chaudhary, president of Tharu Kala Kendra.

 Most of the presentations in the programme are presented in Tharu language.
