Humla, Sept 26 :  Yari, a custom office in Hilsa which is housed in a rented house, is not open for the last three years from 2019. The reason for the office shut down is border closure.

Karma Lama, a hotel businessman here, said that the Custom Office was locked for three years. “After the outbreak of the COVID pandemic the border in Hilsa closed and the customs office has also locked since then,” he said.

According to him, the customs office was established at the border of the two countries Nepal and China for revenue collection, but nothing can be said about the condition of the documents and furniture inside the office after closure.

Lama said not only the customs office in the border but also the offices of the Armed Police Border Security Force, Nepal Police Border Security Checkpoint were closed after the pandemic. “There is no activity and the officials do not bother to go to the office and run the offices,” he said.

However, the Office of the Controller of Treasury and Accounts is working with the help of the contract office appointed for customs at the treasury and accounting control office in Simkot. But there are no higher-level officials in the office for decision making.

Another interesting fact is that the officials recruited for the Custom Office also work from the district administration office.
