Biomass energy use sees rapid increase
Production and use of forest-based biomass energy have increased rapidly in the last 15 years.According to the Bio Energy Supply Report 2020, usage of biomass energy has increased by three times in 2020 compared to the year 2000. Nepal-India border to remain closed for 72 hours on poll day
Nepal-India border in Kanchanpur and Kailali districts will remain close for 72 hours during the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) and the Provincial Assembly slated for November 20. A meeting of the officials of Nepal and India held at Rudrapur of Udhyam Singh district, Uttarakhand, India, on Friday decided to close the border.

Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City has handed over 11 tractors to its ward offices for waste management. The City handed over the tractors to 11 of its 25 wards. Nation becoming self-reliant in production of flowers
With the expansion of floriculture farming over the years, Nepal is becoming self-reliant in flowers. According to the Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN), about 90 per cent of the Nepali demand for flowers is met by domestic production. Bishwamani Pokharel, general secretary of the FAN, said production of flowers in Nepal was enough to fulfill about 90 per cent of domestic demand. However, the remaining 10 per cent could not be produced due to lack of technology and land to produce hybrid seeds. He said that achievement in the expansion of floriculture and its contribution to the national economy is appreciable.

Inflation up by 8.64% in two months
The consumer price inflation reached 8.64 per cent in the second month of the current fiscal year, more than double the same period last fiscal year. According to the current macroeconomic and financial situation of Nepal published by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Friday, the y-o-y consumer price inflation remained at 8.64 per cent in the second month of FY 2022/23 compared to 3.49 per cent a year ago.

Media urged to play role of 'watch dog'
Election Commissioner Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar has asked the media to play the role of the 'watch dog' to prevent violation of election code of conduct. “Like in the previous elections, this time too, the Election Commission has been looking for the continuation of the impartial role of the media,” Dr. Tuladhar said while speaking at a media orientation programme organised by the Election Commission (EC) in Nepalgunj on Thursday. Dr. Tuladhar said that media’s role is very important and responsible during the elections. She mentioned that the EC had launched voter’s education programme to reduce the number of invalid votes.
