Need Of Managing Dyslexia
Learning abilities vary among different persons. However, studies have shown that there are certain percentages of people for whom learning is difficult. Dyslexia, one of the learning disabilities, is often found among people. It is associated with graphic symbols and the sounds of words to the brain. Dyslexic people find difficulty recognising word and spelling, and do not have an ability to match letters to sounds for no apparent reason. However, such persons may be intelligent and able to achieve well in other areas. They are exposed to the same education as others but are unable to read at the expected level.

Like other parts of country, the Budhanilkantha Municipality is also in the grip of fervour of the local elections. Located in the north-east of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, it has witnessed a significant increase in population over the years. However, the municipality lacks basic facilities such as water supply and transport. Water supply is uneven in various areas such as Nilopool, Kapan Height and Sapredhunga. Public transportation in the area is still under the control of certain private companies. Office-goers, as well as common people, are bound to spend a lot of time to reach their respective destinations. They face a lot of inconvenience during the rush hour as they have to travel in overcrowded buses and microbuses.
Poor access to tackle fire in capital
Nepal has been known to have proportionately higher number of natural disasters, especially fire outbreaks over the years. As the unplanned urbanised settings are highly exposed to occurrences of fire incidents, the inhabitants and settlements of Kathmandu valley, which is highly unorganized, poses a risk of increased mortality and morbidity alongside huge economic costs.
Hawa Sangai released
Hawa Sangai, a music video presented by Shiva Ram Thapaliya, was released on Friday from OSR Digital. Singers Sangam Thapaliya and Asmita Adhikaari have lent their voice to the song Hawa Sangai. Popular model Karishma Dhakal and Shuraj Thapaliya are featured in the music video. The love story song has the lyrics by Tara Adhikari while Kamal Rai directed the song. Its music is composed by Kishor Bishokarma.
Poll security likely to hamper regular crime investigations
The regular crime investigation task of Nepal Police is likely to get affected following the deployment of over 62,000 forces during the local level elections to be held on May 13. Nepal Police Headquarters has said that there will be just 10 per cent of the total manpower for the protection of their offices and units across the country while deploying the manpower for the security of the elections. “Over 90 per cent forces will be in the field for the election security purpose,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and spokesperson for the Police Headquarters Bishnu Kumar KC, said.

Asian elephant meet adopts declaration
The 3rd Asian Elephant Range States meeting of government representatives from 13 Asian countries concluded with a declaration of their common goal to conserve the Asian Elephant within its range states. The meeting which started on April 27 concluded on Friday after announcing “Declaration for Asian Elephant Conservation”. All the range states agreed on recognising the Asian Elephant, a seriously endangered species and one of the most iconic animals.
Nepal-India joint border patrol starts for local election security
A joint security patrol has begun in the Dashgaja area of the Nepal-India border in Banke in view of the local level election in Nepal. At other times, security personnel from both Nepal and India have been conducting patrolling separately, but during the local election, the security forces from both the countries have agreed to conduct joint patrol to prevent any illegal activities.
Five held for aiding gold smuggling
The Metropolitan Police Airport Security Office (MPASO) Thursday arrested five individuals, including three cleaning staffers, for ‘aiding’ the smuggling of 2.332 kg gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). According to the MPASO, seizure of the gold from two cleaning staffers led to the arrests of three others. The gold was seized from 28-year-old Bhim Kumar Mabo of Panchthar district and 27-year-old Suman Tamang of Nuwakot district during the mandatory security check before leaving through the iron gate of the TIA. Mabo and Tamang are cleaning staffers for Sungava Suppliers and Sarsafai Pvt. Ltd. at the TIA.
PM stresses economic partnership with US
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Nepal looks forward to more high level engagements and economic partnership with the United States of America in the days to come. In his Twitter post @SherBDeuba, the Prime Minister said, “We look forward to more high-level engagements and economic partnership in the days to come.” Prime Minister Deuba has posted the statement on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment diplomatic relations between Nepal and USA on Friday.
Ploughman Bhul deputy mayor candidate for Dasharathchand
Rajuram Bhul had once reached Kathmandu from Baitadi during the Haliya Mukti Movement in 2008 and picketed Singhadurbar carrying a plough. The same ploughman is now a candidate for a deputy mayor in Dasharathchand Municipality, Baitadi. Bhul was also active in the People's Movement and has been continuing his social works and protests for Haliyas, the agricultural bonded labourers who work on others’ land, for the past 25 years.
‘Unscheduled load shedding wreaking havoc on industries’
When the price of fuel was Rs. 70-80 per litre, the industrialists of Morang-Sunsari Industrial Corridor used to operate the industry by running generators. They would call the workers and run the industry while waiting for the electricity to come according the schedule of load shedding at that time. However, industries in Sunsari-Morang Industrial Corridor are close to shutting down due to unscheduled load shedding.
Using Human Energy To Heat Buildings
In the cult film The Matrix, unwitting humans’ body heat was siphoned off by machines to use as their energy source. Although that might not be the ideal situation to find ourselves in, the basis of the idea – using the warmth we generate to heat our buildings – could help fight climate change by cutting fossil fuel use. Let’s look at the science. The average human body emits about 100 watts of heat at rest. When exercising, that heat can easily exceed 1,000 watts: energy that could boil one litre of water in six minutes. For comparison, a standard (3 kW) home kettle takes more than two minutes to heat a litre of water.
Machhindranaths Of The Valley
Patan’s famous Rato Machhindranath (Padmapani Lokeshwor) Jatra is set to begin next week. The idol will be placed on its wooden chariot at Pulchowk on Sunday and the pulling of that chariot will begin on Wednesday. Provided the COVID-19 pandemic does not take a sudden and drastic turn for the worse, this year, the Jatra will be held in its unabridged form after a break of two years. A month earlier, in Kathmandu, another chariot festival for the Seto Machhindranath (Aryawalokiteshwor) was held amid much fanfare.
Valley museums start to see visitors
The museums of the Kathmandu Valley are finally seeing internal and external tourists. The museums, which closed intermittently for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reopened last year after daily COVID-19 infections started declining in the country. However, in the beginning, they struggled to get visitors as foreigners had not yet arrived in satisfactory numbers. That has changed though in the last two months. The Hanumandhoka Durbar Museum, located in the UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site of Hanumandhoka Durbar Square, gets around 500 daily visitors these days, shared Sandeep Khanal, executive director of the museum’s development committee. “That number grows during public holidays,” he said.
