By Our Correspondent,Dhangadhi, Dec. 13: Debate has begun as to how and which parties will lead the new government in Sudurpachim Province after the final results of the election to the Provincial Assembly were made public.
The political parties have already begun their exercise for the formation of the new government. Mainly, the parties in the ruling coalition have concentrated in the task as they enjoyed a clear majority in the province.
The Nepali Congress-led ruling coalition has a clear majority in the 53-members Sudurpachhim Provincial Assembly. They have 34 members in total. So, discussion has begun separately among the ruling coalition partners- the NC, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN (Unified Socialist) about the new government.
CPN-Maoist Centre Province chair Hariram Chaudhary informed that the parties were separately discussing the formation of the government even though the coalition has not discussed the issue jointly.
“We will sit together after the finalisation of the members elected under Propositional Representation (PR) electoral system,” he said.
Stating that the provincial government will be formed in consensus of the coalition, he said the government formation process would take pace after the provincial assembly members take the oath of office and secrecy.
Representatives from the six parties have been elected in the Provincial Assembly of Sudur Paschim. One independent candidate has also been elected. Three parties of coalition are willing to lead the new government. Prakash Deuba and Danbir Singh Bista from the NC are claiming for the post of the chief minister.
Khagaraj Bhatta from the CPN-Maoist Centre has also claimed the post while Dhirgha Sodari of the CPN (Unified Socialist) is also willing to lead the government. In the Provincial Assembly, 19 members are elected from the Nepali Congress, 11 from the CPN-Maoist Centre, 10 from the CPN-UML, seven from Nagarik Unmukti Party, four from the CPN (Unified Socialist) and one from Rastriya Prjatantra Party.
