Kathmandu, June 1 : Visiting United States Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah B. Rogers delivered keynote remarks at the Ascent Summit 2026 in Kathmandu on May 31.
She joined Sumnima Udas, Member of the House of Representatives and Chair of the International Relations and Tourism Committee, renowned mountaineer Conrad Anker, expedition leaders, innovators, climbers, rescue professionals, outdoor brands, journalists, and tourism leaders from Nepal and around the world, highlighting opportunities to expand innovation and economic partnerships that benefit U.S. and Nepali businesses.
Under Secretary Rogers highlighted the strong and longstanding partnership between the United States and Nepal. She underscored how adventure, entrepreneurship, innovation, and people-to-people ties are expanding bilateral cooperation and opening opportunities for American companies and economic growth in Nepal.
She emphasized the importance of leadership, new technology, safety, and international collaboration in supporting tourism and safer expedition experiences in the Himalayas, US Embassy in Kathmandu informed.
Organized by U.S. Embassy Nepal in partnership with Nepal Tourism Board and Seven Summit Treks, Ascent Summit 2026 brought together more than 1400 participants connected to Everest and the future of mountain exploration. Climbers, expedition leaders, innovators, outdoor brands, community leaders, artists, and tourism leaders explored how Nepal’s mountaineering heritage and American innovation can make expeditions safer and strengthen Nepal’s adventure tourism sector.
During her visit to Nepal, Under Secretary Rogers will also meet senior government officials, members of the American Chamber of Commerce, and alumni of U.S. government exchange and education programs.
Under Secretary Rogers’s visit to Nepal reaffirms the United States’ commitment to strengthening the longstanding U.S.-Nepal partnership through expanded economic cooperation, innovation, and people-to-people ties, the Embassy said.
