By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 19: The 23rd edition of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (Kimff) will be held at QFX Chhaya Centre in Thamel, Kathmandu, from May 27 to 31.
According to a press release, more than 50 films from 29 countries will be screened during the five-day festival.
The programme features fiction films, documentaries, short films and adventure cinema for filmmakers, cinephiles and the wider public.
The festival will open with the Nepal premiere of ‘Shape of Momo,’ an award-winning film by Tribeny Rai. The film follows a woman who returns to her Himalayan hometown after leaving city life and is confronted with a choice between tradition and independence.
This year’s edition will also commemorate 70 years of Nepal-Switzerland relations with a special discussion on Nepali cinema and international collaboration, alongside a panel on cinema and censorship.
A special screening of the Japanese film ‘Climbing for Life’ will mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan.An international jury will select winners in feature and short fiction and documentary categories, while a separate Nepal Panorama jury will judge local films.Kimff will also host the second edition of Kathmandu DocLab this year. Dedicated to nurturing talent from South Asia, filmmakers Anam Abbas, Arun Bhattarai and Sarvnik Kaur will mentor eight South Asian projects.
In partnership with Chalachitra Lab, Kimff will also host a short fiction lab and script pitching forum for six Nepali projects, aimed at addressing the need for a professional marketplace where fiction filmmakers can secure investment and mentorship.
Supporting young filmmakers, the festival will feature ‘Asha: Dreams In Motion,’ a screening and panel discussion during the festival.The festival will also feature ‘Her Climate Story,’ a screening and panel discussion organised by Yuwa and Plan International.
The festival is organised by the Kimff Foundation and is part of the International Alliance for Mountain Film.
