Hari Prasad Koirala,Urlabari, May 19: A seven-day special fair has been organised at Neselung, Miklajung-3 in Morang to introduce visitors to the traditions, language and culture of the endangered Raute community, known for its nomadic way of life.
The fair, featuring the participation of around 25 members of the Raute community who travelled from Karnali Province, has drawn considerable interest and attraction among local residents in eastern Nepal.
Traditional wooden items handcrafted by the Raute people are being displayed and sold at the event. According to Khagendra Maden, Chairperson of the Neselung Tourism Committee, the fair will continue for one week.
Ashok Chemjong, operator of Neselung Fun Park, said such programmes are expected to be fruitful in highlighting not only the cultural identity of the endangered Raute community but also the culture of the Limbu community, the lifestyle of local people and various other aspects of the area.
Kushal Samba, initiator of the park project and former provincial assembly member, said the site, which features the country’s first upside-down house, a view tower and a children’s park, also includes various recreational games, performances and food stalls representing different ethnic communities.
