Inclusive parliament, result of martyrs sacrifice: NCP coordinator Prachanda

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 12: Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has viewed that the current inclusive parliament is the result of the sacrifice of the martyrs during the People's War.

"The way the present parliament has become inclusive with representatives from different classes, castes, ethnic communities and gender, there is the sacrifice of thousands of martyrs for this kind of rainbow like parliament when we raised guns and carried out the movement," said former Prime Minister Prachanda while addressing today's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).

He termed the inclusive and proportional representation in the parliament as a greater achievement than the result his party got in the recent HoR election.

"Seen from overall result, it is secondary as to which party became big or small. For me, it is more important than the victory of my party that this parliament of federal democratic republic has a rainbow like representation of women, ethnic nationalities, Madhesi, Muslim, Tharu, oppressed and marginalized communities," said NCP coordinator Prachanda.

The former PM remembered how his party and presently ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party cooperated in the previous parliament both when in government and in opposition for good governance, service delivery, meritocracy, reclaiming of the land in Lalita Niwas and Bhutanese refugee scam.

Prachanda, the leader who carried out decade long armed rebellion, appreciated Balendra Shah's rise as the Prime Minister as the victory of the revolution that he initiated. "From Mayor of Kathmandu metropolis, Balendra Shah has become Prime Minister now. Our parties are different, but, for me, it is the victory of the resolution of the revolution."

Addressing the HoR after the March 5 election for the first time, Prachanda, leader of the decade-long armed rebellion, said that it was the responsibility of the government to complete the remaining works of the peace process.
