Bara, May 12: The authorities here conducted a surprise inspection at seven outlets in Kalaiya, Bara on Monday. Two confectionary shops were fined by the monitoring team for violating business code.
A team led by Chairman of the Joint Market Monitoring Committee and Assistant Chief District Officer, Chhabi Raman Bhattarai, conducted the monitoring. The substandard food items found during the inspection were disposed at Ma Annapurna Sweets and Bakery of Bariyarpur Road. There were no price list maintained either. It was fined Rs 50,000 as per Section 39 (d) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS, according Assistant Chief District Officer Bhattarai.
Another outlet Kesar Sweets of Kalaiya-5 was fined Rs 20,000 for keeping date expired ice cream and momo. The date expired cooking oil found at Roshan Babu General Store of Bariyarpur Road, was disposed by the monitoring team.
Similarly, Nepal Dairy Industry located at Bariyarpur Road of Kalaiya-4, a meat shop and Satya Hotel in the neighbourhood were asked to appear before the District Administration Office, Bara within three days along with the official documents.
An eatery, Durga Khaja Ghar, was using a weighing machine without receiving license, so it was directed to visit the Office of Standards and Metrology, Birgunj within three days. The authorities warned another outlet Naval Sekuwa why it failed to maintain price list.
The inspection team comprised multiple stakeholders including CDO Bhattarai and administrative officer Dipendra Prasad Yadav, Chief of the Cottage and Small Industries Office in Bara, Devendra Jha, and representatives from District Nepal Police, consumer rights defense. (RSS)
