S. Korea's employment rises 206,000 on year in March

SEOUL, April 15 (Xinhua) :South Korea's employment rose over 200,000 for a second consecutive month amid the continued increase in elderly jobs, statistical ministry data showed Wednesday.

 The number of employed people aged 15 and older gained 206,000, or 0.7 percent, from a year earlier to 28,795,000 in March after growing 234,000 in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Data and Statistics.

Employment has maintained an upward trend for 15 straight months since January last year.

The overall job growth was driven by the elderly. The number of jobs for those aged 60 and older expanded 242,000 in March on a yearly basis, while the figures for those in their 30s and 50s swelled 112,000 and 5,000 each.

Employment among those in their 20s and 40s decreased by 167,000 and 5,000, respectively, in the cited month.
