Nepali Army team Clinches Double Titles in National Kho Kho Championship

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, April 13: The Nepali Army secured a remarkable double victory in the National Kho Kho Championship, winning both the men’s and women’s titles and taking home Rs 75,000 in each category.

Displaying dominant performances, the Army teams triumphed in the eighth edition of the men’s competition and the seventh edition of the women’s competition, held at the covered hall in Kirtipur.

In the men’s final, Nepal Army edged past Lumbini Province in a closely contested four-set match, winning 19–16. The women’s team delivered an even more commanding performance, defeating Lumbini Province by a wide margin of 16–4.

Lumbini Province finished as runner-up in both categories, receiving Rs 50,000 along with trophies and medals.

Bagmati Province secured third place in both divisions, earning Rs 25,000. In the men’s category, Bagmati was defeated 12–5, while in the women’s event, they lost 12–4.

Among individual performers, Deepa BK was named both Best Defender and Best Attacker in the women’s category, while Bishna Tharu and Bharat Saru were recognized as Best Defenders in their respective divisions. Each awardee received Rs 10,000 along with medals and certificates, according to Pradeep Maharjan, President of the Nepal Kho Kho Association.

The Army teams also defeated Sudurpaschim Province in both men’s and women’s categories during the tournament.

Association President Maharjan noted that the participation of top players, including eight leading athletes in the men’s division, would contribute significantly to skill development in the four-day competition.

Kirtipur Municipality Mayor Krishnaman Dangol presented the awards to the winners.

Nepal had previously finished as runners-up in both categories in the first Kho Kho World Cup.
