By Our Correspondent,Humla, Apr. 6: A shortage of salt has been reported in two rural municipalities in the southern part of the district.
The problem has arisen in Tajakot and Adanchuli rural municipalities after the construction company responsible for transporting subsidised salt from the Salt Trading Corporation Limited failed to deliver it on time.
According to local, Jhul Shahi from Ward-3 of Tajakot Rural Municipality, the delay in transporting the subsidised salt has led to the shortage.
He said that the salt distributed a year ago has already run out and this year’s supply has yet to arrive, creating difficulties for locals.
Due to the delay, consumers are being forced to purchase salt from the market at a rate of Rs. 40 per kilogram.
Last year, the corporation had provided 50 kilograms of salt per household. Similarly, in Adanchuli Rural Municipality, locals are also facing a shortage as the subsidised salt has not yet reached the area.
Jang Rokaya, a local from Ward-2 informed that the lack of salt has affected both people and livestock.
He noted that the annual supply of subsidised salt has not been delivered this year, causing hardship.
Raj Bahadur Lama, chief of the corporation in Humla, informed that out of the allocated quota of 479 quintals of salt for Tajakot Rural Municipality this year, only 340 quintals have so far been transported to the municipal centre.
He added that once all the salt is delivered, it will be distributed to residents of all five wards in the presence of ward representatives. According to him, the remaining stock will be transported soon and made available for sale.
