Task force formed to prepare Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan

Kathmandu, April 2: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) is to prepare the National Action Plan 2083 for monsoon-related preparedness and response.

For this, an 18-member task force has been formed under the convenorship of Joint Secretary Roshani Kumari Shrestha, Head of NDRRMA Policy, Planning and Monitoring Division.

NDRRMA spokesperson, Under Secretary Shanti Mahat, said that a task force has been formed and work has begun to prepare the Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan 2083.

The task force includes representatives from federal ministries, departments, and authorities related to disaster, as well as from all three security agencies.

A plan is being formulated to ensure that all relevant agencies including the federal, provincial, local governments, security bodies and partner organisations engage in preparedness and response in a planned manner to effectively face potential monsoon-related disasters and minimise loss of life and property.

Ram Kumar KC, the NDRRMA Under Secretary and a member involved in the formulation of the said action plan, said that all representatives have been given one week to provide the necessary suggestions and assured that this time the work plan will be prepared on schedule.

He also said that a meeting of the task force has been scheduled for next week after receiving suggestions on what topics should be included in the action plan.

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung had instructed the NDRRMA to develop timely response plans and strengthen disaster management efficiently during a recently held programme at the Authority. (RSS)
