Kathmandu, April 1: A Good Governance Unit has been established in the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation with an objective of making the Ministry's operations faster, more transparent and result-oriented.
The Unit was set up in accordance with the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act-2064 BS as well as relevant regulations and the recent cabinet decision.
The Unit, formed at the directive of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, will regularly track and evaluate the performances of staffs across the Ministry and its subordinate bodies.
According to the Minister's Secretariat, the Joint Secretary of the Administration Division will serve as the Unit's coordinator.
Other members include Joint Secretaries from divisions handling programmes, budgets, monitoring, water resources, energy, development assistance, provincial coordination, meteorology and legal affairs.
The Deputy Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Division will act as the Unit's Member Secretary, the Secretariat stated.
The Unit will focus on ensuring that tasks assigned under the Ministry's ‘Service-Oriented Governance System’ are completed within the stipulated timeframe, which officials fulfill their responsibilities effectively and that performances indicators are properly implemented.
Additionally, the Unit will evaluate progress on employee responsibilities, adherence to legal deadlines and the efficient use of government resources.
The Ministry has expressed confidence that this initiative will foster accountability, improve work culture and strengthen good governance throughout the organization.(RSS)
