Mahottari, March 27: Ram Navami, also known as Ram Janmotsav (sacred commemoration of the birth of Lord Ram) is being observed with grandeur and spiritual fervor across the Mithila region today, marked by various religious ceremonies.
Temples and shrines dedicated to the deity Ram throughout the Mithila region have been organizing special religious programmes since early morning to observe the day.
In particular, temples belonging to the Ramanuj sect are hosting continuous chanting of Lord Ram's name and staging dramatic performances of the Raamleela.
Devotional songs (hymns) dedicated to Lord Ram's names and his virtues are resonating across villages and towns across the region.
"Lord Ram is not only a revered deity but is also venerated as the son-in-law of Mithila,” informed Mahant Rabindradas Vaishnav of Laxminarayan Muth. “This makes Ram Navami or Ram Janmotsav a uniquely significant unique festival in this region," he remarked.
In Ram-Janaki temples across Mithila, recitations of sacred scriptures such as the Ramayana, Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana and Sundarkand are underway.
Many devotees are also observing fasting as part of their religious practice.
Mahant Vaishnav noted that among the 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, the incarnation of Lord Ram in the Treta Yug (vedic era) holds special significance.
He further explained that the traditional stories related to Lord Ram’s arrival in Mithila, Sita’s swayamvar followed by their wedding and their subsequent travels across different regions among others contribute to making this festival distinct in Mithila. (RSS)
