Lalitpur, March 24: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the NC met the present fate after it forgot its agenda. NC, established for freedom and equality, must not forget its agenda of keeping people in centre, he stressed.
Thapa said it while addressing the central working committee meeting that began at party central office, Sanepa on Tuesday. "For some time, NC got stuck to competitive parties," he argued.
"I heartily congratulate all candidates securing victory and thank all voters in the House of Representatives election held in an adverse atmosphere. I hope the government will be continued successfully in coming five years," Thapa said, arguing that it would be further difficult for the party if it had gone to election without holding the special general convention.
He admitted that party leaders and cadres might have discontent to the special general convention. However, we've finely taken into notice the leaders who did not cooperate to the party candidates. "Doesn't the person (leader) who became party candidates for five to six times in the constituency earlier feel obliged to seek votes for party candidates? I, as the party President, will talk to all leaders on it," Thapa viewed in the meeting.
Thapa reminded the new government that people had piled much hope in relation to good governance, so investigation should be forwarded in clear and transparent manner on abuse of authority and policy corruption.
According to the NC President, it needs proper balance on the issues of democracy and diversity. NC should be further committed to protecting citizens' rights ensured by the democratic system.
"Freedom, equality and autonomy conferred by the Constitution must not be undervalued. NC is aware of it. It is essential to ensure amendment to constitution to broaden it values," Thapa shared.
He also said NC would hold a discussion in the party and form a committee for the amendment of constitution.
On a different note, the NC President said the conflict in the West Asia has inflicted Nepalis much, so it is necessary to solve the problems faced by the Nepali workers abroad and bolster national economy at home.(RSS)
