By Yagya Prasad Sapkota, Bardiya, March 24: The police has made 10 rounds of blank fire and four rounds of tear gas to disperse the demonstrators blocking the Nepalgunj-Gulariya road at Ganeshpur in Gulariya Municipality-11.

Locals were demonstrating at the road demanding closure of border point to stop transactions of narcotics.

When the police tried to disperse the local people who were protesting the deaths of two youths due to drugs, the clash erupted.

Pramesh Bista, DSP at the district police office, Bardiya, said the police resorted to blank fires to bring the situation under control as the people started pelting stone at the police.

Seven personnel of Nepal Police and three of Armed Police Force have sustained injuries

The locals said that the narcotics brought in from India through the border was behind deaths of Suresh Khatik and Boharan Khatik.

They demanded closure of border point as Nepali youths were visiting Indian market where they get drugs easily.

DSP Bista said the cause of deaths of the two youths would be clear after the report of the postmortem.

Ram Narayan Prasad Keshari, former ward chair of Gulariya-11, said that as the bordering Indian town of Laukahi has become a hub for drugs, access to that place from Nepal border point should be closed and those involved in drug business should be punished.
