NEPSE jumps 54 points; turnover totals Rs. 23.59B

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Mar. 23: The benchmark of share market index, NEPSE, has posted a significant growth on Sunday, the first trading day of the week.

The NEPSE increased by 54.51 points (1.89 per cent) and closed at 2,931.55 points on Sunday. The NEPSE index had increased by 64.69 points on Thursday last week.The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies also increased by 11.11 points to close at 505.31 points. The sub-indices of all groups, except trading, increased in today's transaction.

Sub-index of the non-life insurance group saw the highest growth of 318.59 points followed by the life insurance and hotels and tourism group whose indices increased by 273.07 points and 230.81 points respectively.

Similarly, sub-index of microfinance group increased by 213.77 points, manufacturing and processing group by 190.93 points, development bank by 155.76 points and finance by 56.26 points.

Similarly, the sub-index of others group went up by 41.28 points, banking by 38.02 points, hydropower by 13.23 points, investment by 0.85 points and mutual fund by 0.27 points.

However, the sub-index of trading group posted a fall of 4,31 points in today's transaction. The daily turnover has increased on Sunday as compared to the transaction last Thursday.

A total of 61,407,074 shares worth Rs. 23.59 billion of 364 companies were sold in 204,955 transactions today. 

On Thursday last week, a total 56,920,608 shares worth Rs. 21.22 billion had been bought and sold.

The share prices of 248 companies increased while the share prices of 95 companies decreased in today’s transaction.

On Sunday, share prices of six companies, including Corporate Development Bank, Salapa Bikas Bank, Reliance Spinning Mills, Aviyan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha, Solu Hydropower and Bhujung Hydropower increased by 10 per cent each.

Similarly, the share price of Hotel Forest Inn increased by 9.98 per cent, Vijaya Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 9.95 per cent and NIC ASIA Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 9.18 per cent.

However, share price of NIC Asia Balance Fund decreased by 5.71 per cent, Super Madi Hydropower by 3.15 per cent and Shreenagar Agritech Industries by 2.96 per cent.
