Woman found dead under culvert after heavy rain in Bardibas

By Rabindra Upreti, Bardibas, March 21: A woman died following heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in Bardibas Municipality of Mahottari district on Friday night.

The body was found on Saturday morning in stagnant rainwater under a culvert along the East–West Highway at Bardibas Municipality–1.

According to police, the deceased is an unidentified woman estimated to be around 40 years old.

Locals discovered the body partially submerged in water, with her head and the right side of her body underwater, and immediately informed the police.

Residents reported that the woman appeared to be of hill origin and had been living in the Bardibas area for some time, surviving by begging.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bikash Bam of the Area Police Office, Bardibas, said that a preliminary report has been prepared at the incident site and the body has been sent to Bardibas Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police stated that further investigation is underway to establish the woman’s identity and determine the exact cause of death.
