Kathmandu, March 20: Various ministers visited the site of under-construction building of the Federal Parliament in Singa Durbar on Friday.
Foreign Minister Balananda Sharma, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal, Health and Population Minister Dr Sudha Gautam, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Shradda Shrestha had the field inspection of the under-construction facility.
They observed a newly built 'multipurpose hall' prepared to host parliamentary meetings following the recent House of Representatives (HoR) election, as well as the ongoing construction of HoR and National Assembly (NA) halls.
A meeting chamber has been readied for the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected lawmakers. According to the Home Minister, the construction team had ensured that the facility could also be used for HoR meetings if needed. The chamber includes an office for the Speaker and space for the Business Advisory Committee.
Also the spokesperson of the government, Home Minister Aryal shared that the seating layout and furniture arrangements inside the building were satisfactory. Although provisional, the quality of furniture and technology was up to the mark.
According to the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, the new parliamentary complex spans over 156 ropanis of land (one ropani equals 5,476 square feet). The area includes a total of 12 buildings, such as the Federal Parliament Building, HoR Building, NA Building, VVIP Room, parliamentary party office buildings, and a parliamentary committees building.(RSS)
