blog

Kathmandu, March 20: Today marks 100 days since Minister for Forests and Environment Madhav Prasad Chaulagain took charge of the ministry.

The present interim government was formed after the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9, 2025 and it has completed its major responsibility of holding the House of Representatives elections on time. Additionally, the government has also made progress in works in line with public expectations.

Minister Chaulagain said that during this period, 58 important policy, legal, institutional, and programme-related reforms were implemented.

"Keeping the limited time in mind, we moved forward with the belief that effective work can be done in a short period. Collaborating with development partners, we advanced various projects and worked on issues of public concern such as human-wildlife conflict and wildlife harmful to agriculture as a priority," he said, talking to RSS.

With the aim of strengthening environmental governance, the Ministry has approved five new standards in areas including air quality, industrial emissions, brick and cement industries. Additionally, there have been significant legal reforms including the approval of the carbon trading regulations and amendments to the forestry regulations.

Minister Chaulagain said that during this period, significant achievements were made in international cooperation and climate finance mobilization, noting the process for mobilisation of international cooperation was advanced through various projects and programmes.

He shared that during this period, a 'Headquarter Agreement' has been signed between the South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network, an intergovernmental body comprising eight South Asian countries against illegal wildlife trade, and the Ministry of Forests and Environment on behalf of the Government of Nepal.(RSS)
