Commercial banana farms damaged by rainfall with storm

Kamalamai (Sindhuli), March 18: Rainfall coupled with wind and storm that occurred on Monday has inflicted heavy damage at Banka of Dudhauli municipality-1 in the district.     

Bananas cultivated by farmers on seven bigaha of land was destroyed, said a local farmer Ram Kumar Ghimire. "Of the banana farmed on seven bighas of land three bigaha was completely damaged," he added.     

Jay Prasad Pahadi, Yubaraj Pahadi and Ram Kumar Ghimire had jointly started commercial banana farming with the help of Bhitrimadhes Multipurpose Agriculture Farm four years ago. Property worth Rs 1.3 million rupees was damaged due to the storm.     

The farm had sold banana worth Rs 4.3 million last year. According to the Agriculture Development Office, Sindhuli, commercial banana farming is being done on 364 hectares of land in the district.     

The storm caused partial damages to commercial banana farming in most of the areas, farmers added.(RSS)
