Man kills mother, injures sister

By Bhawani Datta Bhatta, Kanchanpur, March 18: A man has allegedly killed his mother and seriously injured his sister in Kanchanpur District.

According to the District Police Office Kanchanpur, Hari Prasad Shrestha, aged 55, of Dodhara Chandani Municipality-4, attacked his 70-year-old stepmother Bindra Shrestha with a sharp weapon, killing her on the spot.

Superintendent of Police Khadka Bahadur Khatri said that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening following a land dispute.

Police said that Shrestha also attacked his 50-year-old sister Bhagwati Devi Majhi, who had been staying at her maternal home.

She sustained serious injuries to her right hand and head and is currently undergoing treatment at Mahakali Provincial Hospital.

Police said that the accused is currently at large and a search operation is underway to arrest him.

A local person has been taken into custody for questioning, and further investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
