Woman killed after being struck by falling branch

By Bhaktibilash Pokharel, Gaighat, March 17: A woman died after being struck by a falling tree branch in Udayapur district on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Minamaya Tamang, aged 49, of Thaliyatar, Katari Municipality-8.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kedarman Dong of the Area Police Office Katari, the incident occurred while she was shifting goats from a shed near her house.

He said that a branch of a nearby tree broke due to strong winds accompanied by rainfall and struck her, causing critical injuries.

Police said that a team of seven led by the DSP was immediately deployed to the site after receiving information about the incident.

The injured Tamang was rushed to the Provincial Hospital in Katari for treatment, but doctors declared her dead.

Meanwhile, the storm on Monday evening has claimed two lives in the district. Earlier, Birendra Chaudhary, aged 64, of the same municipality, died after a tree fell on his house.

Police said that further investigation into both incidents is underway.
