Kathmandu, March 13: The Children as Zones of Peace National Campaign (CZOP) has expressed grave concern over alarming rise of sexual violence, including rape, murder and exploitation meted out on girls and young adolescents.
CZOP reminded recent violence such as gang rape and murder of 16-year-old Inisha BK in Birendranagar, Surkhet; the gang rape of a 12-year-old girl in Kanchanpur; and a rape of a 12-year-old girl in Dailekh by her relative, leading pregnancy.
The organization said the violence against girls was on rise via digital media: a teenage girl was lured via social media, blackmailed, and subjected to four years of rape and record of nude videos.
CZOP President Tilottama Paudel released a statement on Friday said these incidents reflect a worrying trend of increasing sexual violence, physical abuse, online harassment, and murder of girls and adolescents in Nepal. It is a grave violation of children's right. The child rights guaranteed by the international child rights convention and the Constitution of Nepal are egregiously violated.
"We call for prompt and transparent investigations into all these horrible incidents and stringent actions to the perpetrators. Adequate compensation to the victims is imperative," he stated.(RSS)
