Ministry of Forests and Environment implements GEDSI Strategy

Kathmandu, March 13: The Ministry of Forests and Environment has implemented 'Gender Equality, Disabled-Friendly and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Strategy and Implementation Project for the forestry and environment sector covering the years 2082-2091.     

The strategy is being implemented from February 27. Organising a programme today, Minister for Forest and Environment Madhav Prasad Chaulagain unveiled the strategic document.     

On the occasion, Minister Chaulagain shared, "Gender participation in forestry sector has greatly contributed in women's leadership development.     

He urged to practically implement the recently approved decade-long strategy in all areas, stressing the need to make gender-friendly workplace.     

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma opined that bringing the strategy is first success itself, adding it was major responsibility of the concerned sector to implement it in practice.     

Sharma mentioned that it was necessary to be sensitive towards budget as budget is important to establish gender-friendly social justice.     

Gender focal persons working at different departments under the Forest Ministry were honoured with letter of appreciation.     

Under-Secretary at the Forest Ministry, Dipa Oli, presented important points included in GEDSI Strategy and Implementation Plan. It has incorporated action plans under 74 different strategies which has mentioned to review strategy and action plan in every five years and organise a national workshop on gender mainstreaming in forest sector in every three years.(RSS)
