By Narad Kohar, Kapilvastu, March 13: Two women have been arrested for allegedly abusing a woman
after accusing her of practicing witchcraft in Uataha, Banganga Municipality, Kapilvastu
district.
According to the District Police Office Kapilvastu, Hum
Kumari Jhedi Magar, aged 51, and her daughter Khagisara Jhedi Magar, 21, of
Banganga Municipality-1 were taken into custody.
They are accused of assaulting Lila Kumari Shrestha, aged 57,
of the same locality, by beating her with burning firewood after accusing her
of witchcraft.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ripendra Kumar Singh said
that a police team was deployed after receiving information that the victim had
been assaulted and abused.
Police have registered a case against the mother and
daughter under the offence related to the accusation of witchcraft, he said.
According to police, further investigation is underway after
obtaining a seven-day extension for the investigation from the Kapilvastu
District Court.
